The following conferences with a forensic theme are taking place in the coming year. Please notify us of any relevant conferences that are forthcoming.

The 2010 Clarity conference will take place in Lisbon from 12-14 October, 2010. Clarity is an international organization that promotes plain legal language.

Explaining the Law to Others: Message Received. and Understood! (October 21st and 22nd, 2010, in Montreal).

The 16th International inter-disciplinary Colloquium on Current Legal Issues: Language and Law. 4-5 July, 2011, at UCL (University College London).

Events related to forensic linguistics prior to the founding of IAFL:

box 1988: The Bundeskriminalamt (BKA) in Wiesbaden, Germany, organized a two-day conference in FL.

box 1989: Conferences on forensic handwriting analysis, at which there were also FL presentations. Organised by the late Lothar Michel at Mannheim University, Germany.

box 1990 and 1991: Conferences in York on forensic phonetics and linguistics, organized by Peter French.

box 1990, 1991, 1992 and beyond: GAL, the German Applied Linguistics Association, had a session ("Arbeitskreis") on forensic linguistics in its program every year (in Goettingen, Mainz and Saarbruecken respectively).

box 20-22 March 1992: The First British Seminar on Forensic Linguistics was held at the University of Birmingham, and was attended by delegates from Australia, Brazil, Eire, Holland, Greece, Ukraine and Germany as well as the U.K. There was a consensus that an international association was needed, and it was from this seminar that the IAFL was born.

box 14th November 1992: A one day seminar (Second British Seminar on FL) was held in Birmingham.

box 1993: 8-14 August: Special Symposium at the AILA Conference, Amsterdam.

box 1995: July: 2nd IAFL Conference, University of New England, Armidale, Australia.
